Executive Summary

Lifeform is a leading web3 ecosystem project where people can create hyper-realistic 3D virtual human avatars easily with advanced Lifeform DID solution that enable them to use NFTs as digital identities which could log in to any DAPP and metaverse world.

Our vision is bringing in the next billion users to the web3 space. Towards these ends, the Lifeform avatars are not only an useful login tool for accessing web3, but they also can be used across traditional web2 social apps such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft teams, TikTok, and any other video-sharing app. Users can use their avatars to join video meetings, attend online conferences, or attend virtual event. Your avatars will mimic your motions using our one-click plugin.

The Lifeform Virtual Human Editor tool is the first Virtual DID solution with Unreal Engine 5 (UE5) integration, the leading development platform for triple-A games and special effects in blockbuster movies. For everyday users, the virtual human editor allows them to create hyper-realistic virtual avatars with over 10 Billion combinations of facial and body details. Despite being incredibly powerful, the tool is simple to use so that anyone can create their avatar.

In addition to customizing the body and face of your avatar, the Lifeform platform offers a wide variety of outfits and accessories. These outfits and accessories are all consumer-generated content and can be created as a promotion, for example, bringing Adidas shoes or a t-shirt for the latest Avengers movie.

The virtual human avatars are saved as cross-blockchain NFTs that store your decentralized identification information in a secure and private manner. This gives users ownership over their login credentials so that you can access the world of web3 without worrying about being censored or removed as was the case in the web2 era.

Lifeform has already been expanding rapidly with funding from web3 leaders such as Binance Labs, launched leading NFT sales across OpenSea and Binance NFT Marketplace, and the powerful yet simple to use virtual human avatar creation tool has already been used to create some of the most realistic avatars around.

Lifeform is creating the next wave of web3 technology.

Overview

Blockchain technology, or more relevantly, the “crypto world” as we know it, is at a watershed moment. The vicious cycles of booms and busts since its birth have served but only one purpose so far — to show that the harms of such innovations could be more real than their potential benefits to society at large. All philosophical debates about utopia vs. dystopia aside, the advocates, industry leaders, and builders urgently need to validate the notion that crypto isn’t just a pyramid scheme driven by hyper financialization, that tokenization, smart contracts, and decentralized applications (dApps) can effectively unlock and unleash the hidden potence of internet, that it has the same power of behavioral change through the process of value sharing as through the one of information sharing.

Among all the strong trends in this quest, two particular ones are: web2 ecosystems are migrating to web3, and real-world experience is being augmented by that of the metaverse. Underpinning both of these transitions is the unmistakable deviation away from the crypto mania that has been plaguing the world so far — hyper financialization. Instead, both of these categories of crypto adoption center around one quintessential mandate: the user experience that is tragically missing from the dApps that exist today. It is with clear recognition and focus of this urgency, and the specific opportunities with providing the most convenient, useful, and universal Decentralized Identification (DID) solutions, that Project Lifeform is founded.

There are three major challenges that Lifeform is set to address.

1) Web2 compatibility. Digital Identification technology has its root in the early formation of the web2 application clusters. There were multiple attempts at standardizing an identification protocol that could be used across the internet, but as the few tech giants gradually gained dominance, most notably Microsoft, Google, Facebook, and Apple, digital identification has become tied to the user accounts of the above few platforms, respectively, which eventually forced users to use them as their identities on most other platforms. In the web2 world, one may claim that the digital identity solution is already available, but one must also come to the realization that the origin and control of such identities is highly centralized. If a Decentralized Identification solution is to have mass success, it must first be able to support applications in the web2 establishment, and Lifeform approaches this issue realistically.

2) Visual representation. In both web2 and web3 applications, collaboration and communication are taking a much more lively form than the applications of the previous generation would require. Remote meetings and events make heavy use of cameras in formal settings, but in more social and entertaining scenarios, such as those taking place on Discord or Twitter, animated personalities bring an entirely different sense of dynamics and liveliness to the occasions. The booming gamefi and metaverse ecosystems, whose focused pursuit of immersive experience, make visual personality an absolute necessity. The username or login handle methodology is utterly inadequate in these types of applications. In short, DID must go beyond being merely digital; it must also be visual and animated. If the creator economy and individual values are driven by spirits and souls, then Lifeform is set to wrap these spirits and souls with their reflective images and bodies.

3) Web3 integration. As stated previously, the paramount issues of adoption of blockchain in a web3 regime is the tangible realization of economic and social values, which requires interoperability and composability to integrate user experience with crypto assets and other forms of non-transferrable digital ownership. While decentralization lies at the core of such ideology, fragmentation proves to be the detriment to a boom of decentralized killer-apps — after all, if cross-platform user friendliness cannot be said as one of the quintessential features of web3, then the superiority of the wallgardened web2 ecosystems will continue to reign. Lifeform is set to provide the “user composability” with regard to web3 integration.

With these crucial elements at the core, this paper describes the Lifeform solutions and outlines the vast landscape in which they can be applied.

Introduction

Lifeform is positioned as the open solution platform of Decentralized Identification that can bring the next billion new users into the web3 world. Specifically, Lifeform will enable them to come into the world of metaverse and web3 applications by simplifying the creation, usage, and management of virtual identities — their virtual human avatars. These ultra-high definition avatars can not only be used in all major web2 video-enabled collaboration systems such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Discord, TikTok, Instagram, etc., but also serve as the users’ logins for all dApps in the web3 environment, smoothly bridging the transition from web2 to web3 ecosystems for new users.

The Vision

We are witnessing the rapid expansion of the web3 ecosystem to include a myriad of applications covering a wide range of use cases including work, social, and entertainment, and finance. One of the most promising areas enabled by the disruptive technologies will be the metaverse, in which friends, family, and new acquaintances will be able to join each other to work, play, and socialize. We see that the web2 era username and password identity regime as grossly inadequate to support such dynamic and immersive experiences. We envision that billions of users rely on animated virtual human avatars that not only act as their login credentials to all applications but also show their personalities in interactions, in both the web2 and web3 worlds. We also envision the web3 stage of the internet being a network of carrying and exchanging personal values, in which identity, NFT, and DeFi are all intertwined. We see DID solutions for consumers, organizations, and developers playing a critical role on such a stage.

The Mission

Our mission is straightforward: onboarding the next billion web3 users. We are creating tools and bundling them into solutions, at both individual and enterprise levels, that can vastly expand the user base of web3 by allowing the mass to simply and easily migrate to the web3 world from the web2 world they are already familiar with. Such an expansion of the reach of users with magnitude of difference will induce and empower a wave of the next generation of dApps that will unlock the real potential of blockchain technologies to truly benefit society and humanity.

The Known Problems

Despite the rapid and promising growth of blockchain-enabled technologies that have occurred over the past several years, there are still persistent challenges in the industry that must be tackled, some of which that users face are remeninents from the web2 world, while additional ones have been brought about by the web3 developments that are inherent to the blockchain. The solutions and products being developed at Lifeform aim at addressing these challenges.

Platform Lock-in

One of the most pervasive issues in web2 is that the large platforms all intend to lock their users in with both soft and hard mechanisms. The most common one is to simply lock your data within the platform. Instagram, for example, has all of your images along with communications between users and their contacts. If they wanted to leave the platform, there is no simple way to keep such social contents created by the users throughout their activities, which instead become only valuable to the platforms.

Unfortunately, many web3 platforms are copying from the same monopolistic playbook in the web2 regime. In terms of identity management, although they allow users to create pseudonymous identities which can be used to explore metaverse worlds, engage in DeFi, or create the next web3 use case, they attempt to lock the users to such pseudonymous identities. For example, users on Decentraland can not bring their same identity to Sandbox or vice versa, the same way as the Meta (Facebook) metaverse would not enable its users to use their platform identities in other metaverse system, at least not before it is sure to gain a monopolistic advantage.

It’s critical to note that identity provides access to owned assets and values. When identities are locked-in, so are assets. The permissionless and boundless networks of value sharing envisioned and promised by blockchain technologies is thus severely handicapped.

The Inconvenient and Inhuman Wallets

Since crypto wallets built on public-private keys are the underlying entities carrying ledger based transactions, they are the default choice to identify transactors in dApps. While wallet-as-identity might be sufficient in certain pure financial applications where personality is not a concern, it has major shortcomings. To begin with, wallets are difficult to operate for average users, and such difficulties make users vulnerable to fishing schemes, even for the experienced users on large platforms, where massive funds have been transferred to the unintended wallet addresses. Cautious users routinely send test transfers to verify the correct receivers. Such inconvenience and sense of insecurity serve as natural barriers of entry for mass adoption. What makes matters worse is that it opens the door for mismanaged or ill-intended centralized systems to conduct business that’s in complete violation of the crypto spirit — the recent collapse of multiple financial platforms that had operated under the name of simplicity laid bare of such exploitability.

For metaverse, gaming, arts, entertainment, and collaboration in general, wallet based entities are inhuman. Spirits and souls manifested through personalities and liveliness lie at the heart of social activities, and hence individual values and creator economy. Codified identities satisfy machines but not humans. In all the aforementioned areas of applications, contents, behaviors, and images are inseparable. Whereas the hyper financialized crypto activities don’t require, or even disencourage, personalities, the true socialization and collaboration demand it. Wallet, a form of ledger entry, does not serve social applications well.

Incompossibility

In application development, composability refers to the ability to combine existing components and reassemble them to create new products, and in the context of web3, composability means developers of one application can use and integrate components from other applications into their products. Since a wallet, as discussed previously, is an ineffective The current identification protocols do not enable web3 users to easily transfer their identity to the location that is needed. This limits the flexibility and freedom that users have to manage their identities in the way that best suits them, whether it is moving them to a new platform or transferring it to be connected with a different wallet.

The Web2 Inertia

Despite the enthusiasm toward building a vibrant decentralized world, so far the identification mechanisms in web3 have been directly taken from web2. Most platforms still use a simple username as user identity. Even .eth addresses are re-using the same web2 infrastructural ideas.

While there is nothing inherently wrong with building upon earlier technologies, in this case it is hindering the decentralized aspirations of the web3 space. If this path were to continue, then users would once again be forced to be locked-in to large platforms for another generation of technology.

Lack of Security

The web3 industry is still plagued with scams. Hacking, fishing, rug-pulls, Ponzi schemes, and other scams are common vocabulary in the web3 space. Without adding additional security these hackers and rotten apples will continue to hold back the mass adoption of web3.

While some might see these shortcomings as signs to give up, at Lifeform we find these shortcomings as a source of inspiration. By acknowledging these issues we are able to build better technology that can lead us forward into the web3 space.

Design Objectives

Specifically, we want to leverage web3 technology and a decentralized ecosystem to allow everyone to achieve three things:

Form Meaningful Connections

Provide a new paradigm for the WEB3 metaverse and realize open standards for identity/state/asset/resource/data interconnection.

While providing open ABI and API for developers, Lifeform would leave the right of interpretation for the the application side freely.

Be Simple & Accessible

Although Lifeform is the underlying infrastructure, the goal is always to capture user traffic. The ability to generate affordable high-quality 3D hyper-realistic virtual human avatars easily will become the key factor.

Also, Lifeform would provide WEB2 developers with a secure smart contract development kit, while maintaining atomicity and security, reducing the learning and migration costs of developers, ensuring the continuous emergence of new high-quality applications and content.

Combining with user traffic, developer, ecological application content, and the complete output of the economic model, it is possible to build a cross-platform and cross-engine metaverse.

Keep Private & Secure

In order to feel confident interacting with others in the web3 environment, it is imperative that everyone is able to maintain privacy and security. This not only includes privacy over financial and personal data but also whatever information you consider to be something worth keeping private. As digital assets become more widespread and valuable, the web3 infrastructure needs to make it simple to ensure that you will maintain control over your property while enabling granular control over your preferences.

The Solutions

Lifeform technology is focused on ultra-high definition hyper-realisitic virtual human avatars that also act as login credentials across all web3 applications. The first areas that we are focused on are both in web2 and web3. As discussed in more detail later, our current solutions include three parts:

Cross-ecosystem Web3 Decentralized Identity Solution

On the backend, your avatar is an NFT that can be connected to your web3 wallets and provide login credentials to any application across web3. That means that your experiences and status in one area of the metaverse or web3 ecosystem can be used anywhere you need.

Hyper-realistic 3D Virtual Human Avatar Editor

Lifeform avatar editor allows you to build your personal avatar. You can create an avatar that looks exactly like your real-world self, or you can create any digital version of yourself that you want.

Connect to other APPs and DAPPs

Each Lifeform avatar works as your cross-ecosystem login Identification enabling you to quickly dive into new metaverse world and GameFi apps with the same Visual identity, image, status, data & asset.

Also, we have built a one-click plugin that allows you to use your avatar in any video you’d like. You can join your next Zoom meeting or post your next TikTok using your avatar.
